It’s official: Steven Stamkos will not spend his entire NHL career in a Lightning sweater. On Monday, the longtime captain — who started his career with Tampa Bay in 2008 — signed a four-year contract with the Nashville Predators as the free-agency period got underway. For more than a decade and a half, Stamkos was the face of the Lightning.

Rays fans can rejoice. Well, at least some of them. The team on Tuesday is set to announce the completion of a deal for a new stadium in downtown St. Petersburg, marking the end of a search that has included proposed sites across the Tampa Bay area and spanned more than a decade. As part of the redevelopment of the 86-acre Historic Gas Plant District, the stadium would be constructed near the current Tropicana Field site. It would open for the 2028 season.
