1. IntroductionPalliative care has always included spiritual care (Saunders et al. 1981; Saunders 1967; Mount 1976). The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently reaffirmed that ‘palliative care improves the quality of life of patients and that of their families who are facing challenges associated with life-threatening illness, whether physical, psychological, social or spiritual’ (World Health Organization 2020).
