DALLAS – Today, in 1929, Delta Air Service operated its first passenger flight from Dallas, Texas, to Jackson, Mississippi, U.S.Delta Air Line’s (DL) history began with a crop-dusting adventure in the US and Peru. Huff Daland Dusters, the predecessor of Delta Air Lines (DL), was the first commercial agricultural flying company, and Huff Daland’s 18 planes became the largest privately-owned fleet in the world.

DALLAS – Today, in 1934, Highland Airways Limited commenced the first regular airmail service in the UK between Inverness and Kirkwall. Highland was founded on April 3, 1933, and commenced operations the next month from its base in the Scottish city of Inverness (INV).

DALLAS –Today in aviation, Dassault Aviation Mercure took to the air for the first time from Bordeaux-Merignac Airport (BOD) in 1971. Onboard for the May 28 maiden flight were Dassault Aviation Chief Pilot, Jean Courot, co-pilot Jerome Resal, and test engineer Gerard Joyeuse. The Mercure project was pushed by the Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC), the French Civil Aviation Authority.

DALLAS – Today, in 1942, Canadian Pacific Airlines (CP) was officially formed. This is how this once well-known airline began. In the early 1940s, the Canadian Pacific Railway Company decided to purchase the following ten small bush airlines: Ginger Coote Airways, Southern Air Transport, Wings, Prairie Airways, Mackenzie Air Services, Arrow Airways, Starratt Airways, Quebec Airways, and Montreal & Dominion Skyways.

DALLAS — Today, in 1946, Ethiopian Airlines (ET), formerly Ethiopian Air Lines, began operations. ET is the largest carrier in Africa. It all started on April 8, 1946, when a Douglas DC-3 Skytrain flew from Addis Ababa (ADD) to Cairo (CAI) via Asmara (ASM) under the livery of a new airline, created a few months earlier as a joint venture with TWA-Trans World Airlines (TW): Ethiopian Air Lines (ET) was born.
