It began May 15 at SDSU Imperial Valley and concluded Sunday night, May 18, at Viejas Arena. In what will be remembered as one of the most intense championship games in the league's history, San Diego State University claimed the Mountain West tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in a match that featured over a dozen lead changes and extended into three overtime periods. “I'm out of breath. San Diego State delivered a stunning upset in a physical battle, taking down No. 1 seed UNLV, 71-59, to advance to the conference tournament final. The odds were stacked high against SDSU in their match against UNLV at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
