    A third sinkhole formed in Centurion last week – one of an estimated 50 that the city did not have the budget to fix. About 25 households of Lyttleton Manor in Centurion were locked in their area on Friday after a huge new sinkhole formed overnight at the corner of Burger Avenue and Langerbrink Road. City of Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the sinkhole currently measured at approximately 40m in diameter and 3.5m in depth.

    Civil society organisations and community members continue to carry the responsibility of repairing potholes around Pretoria, while the municipality stays mum. Last Wednesday, Betereinders cofounder pastor Johan Erasmus and his team took to the streets with the NG Oosterlig en Dialogue community as part of their Gatvol pothole project to fix over 100 potholes in the east of Pretoria. “We used over 100 of 35kg buckets of pothole mix with over 100 people helping,” he said.

    The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has demanded the removal of Parliament’s police portfolio committee chair Ian Cameron over his criticism of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s VIP protection officers. Cameron this week shared his outrage at the South African Police Service (Saps)’s decision to clear eight members of Mashatile’s security team of charges during an internal disciplinary process. The eight are still facing legal proceedings in court.
