Overgrown grass, a pile of rubble and bricks and an empty fountain is, apparently, what the ratepayers of Tshwane got for the R63 million the council allegedly spent on refurbishing the symbolic seat of municipal government in the city. The Federation of Afrikaans Cultural Associations (FAK) has demanded a list of the construction work done on City Hall as there is little visible change.

Centurion residents without power for almost two weeks

Not all of the power has been restored in parts of Centurion, where some residents have been without electricity for more than 11 days. Lindela Mashigo, city of Tshwane spokesperson, said technicians were almost at the final stages of their repair work at Brakfontein substation, which was damaged by fire on 3 April. “For now, some areas have been energised from the substation while the team repairs the downstream network before power can be restored to other residents,” Mashigo said.
