For the first time in Indiana University’s magical football season, the Hoosiers found themselves in a tight game late in the fourth quarter Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Ahead by two points with 5:20 remaining, eighth-ranked IU went on to defeat Michigan, 20-15, to improve its record to 10-0. “A lot of championship teams have those ugly hard-fought wins, and I think that’s what we did today,” IU linebacker Aiden Fisher said.

A Bloomington woman pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court after being charged last year with a racially motivated stabbing of an Asian student at Indiana University. Billie Davis will be sentenced Dec. 3 after pleading guilty to a violation of the Hate Crime Act. Prosecutors said Davis stabbed the victim several times in the head with a folding knife Jan. 11, 2023, on a Bloomington Transit bus downtown. Bus video showed no confrontation between Davis and the victim before the attack.

The Monroe County prosecutor filed a murder charge against a Bloomington woman Friday after the man she is alleged to have beaten and stabbed died this week. After originally filing attempted murder as the most serious charge, prosecutors amended the charges against Briley Shayne Turner, 25, to murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery in connection with an incident August 18. Police said they responded to a report of a male screaming for help in an apartment.

August 24, 2024 Indiana’s Public Access Counselor agreed with WFIU/WTIU News that Indiana University’s Board of Trustees violated the state’s Open Door Law during its private meeting May 14, according to a strongly worded advisory opinion released Thursday. In the required citation of law justifying the closed meeting, the trustees said they were going to discuss litigation.
