Mark Armstrong is just over four weeks away from Comrades (Image: Dreampace) It’s all starting to feel uncomfortably close now. Four weeks from Sunday, I’ll be standing on the start line in Pietermaritzburg, about to take on the Comrades Marathon. Just saying that makes my stomach flip. It’s a scary thought - but perhaps not quite as scary as it was 10 days ago.

2 1/1 Logan Smith produced the performance of his life at Sunday’s London Marathon, setting a new personal best of 2:15:23 despite battling tough conditions and running large parts of the race alone. Smith, who hails from Cromer in North Norfolk, has been on a steep upward curve over the past 18 months, improving his marathon best from 2:19:41 in Valencia (2023) and 2:15:49 in Frankfurt (2024) to Sunday’s breakthrough performance in London.
