And for Dr Paradis, it was the impressive manner in which McIlroy dealt with adversities thrown at him over five hours of sporting drama that elevated him to the status of golfing Grand Slam royalty.

There were heart-stopping moments of anguish and exhilarating moments of sheer joy. The ups, the downs, the near misses were all part of the Masters night — which is usually the finest, most dramatic evening for the millions of golf fans. We saw brilliant performances, the despair of missed putts and splashes into water, but most importantly for golf fans in Northern Ireland, we got the result we wanted. It will go down as perhaps the most dramatic final round that the Masters has ever witnessed.

The Ulster Teachers’ Union was in Limavady at the weekend for their annual conference — the first gathering since a new pay deal was settled with the department. The agreement provides teachers here receive a 5.5% award for the current academic year. But attention will now turn to negotiations for next year, with Ulster Teachers’ Union general secretary Jacquie White saying that despite talks since 2020 over workload concerns, teachers are yet to see any change.
