The “extreme heat” has arrived in Las Vegas. Just in time for the weekend. An extreme heat warning takes effect at 9 a.m. today and is set to expire at 11 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. The agency is forecasting a high of 103 degrees for today and 104 degrees for Saturday. The heat could break records both days. The heat warning covers much of the Mojave Desert, including Las Vegas and the Colorado River Valley. Temperatures over 115 are likely in Death Valley.

May started out cooler and wetter than normal in Las Vegas. It’s gonna end much differently. An “extreme heat watch” has been issued for Southern Nevada later this week, about a week after the valley saw its first 100 degree day of 2025. The watch, issued by the National Weather Service, starts Friday morning and is set to expire Saturday night.

Don’t expect a calm Saturday in Las Vegas. Especially if you’re heading to the Electric Daisy Carnival at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A wind advisory has been issued for Southern Nevada by the National Weather Service. The advisory starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 11 p.m.Expect southwest winds from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. There is a 20 percent chance of showers Saturday night. The NWS says “gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects.
Young male dies in North Las Vegas shooting

A young male died in a shooting Friday night in North Las Vegas. The shooting happened at 5:06 p.m. in the 2500 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North. The North Las Vegas Police Department, in a statement, said “officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North in response to reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound.”The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Las Vegas man sentenced to 49 years in prison for armed robberies

A Las Vegas man who has prior felony convictions was sentenced to 49 years in prison for committing multiple armed robberies of businesses in Las Vegas. From January 19, 2022, to January 25, 2022, George Perez committed seven store robberies, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement released Friday. At all seven robberies, Perez approached the cashiers with store merchandise, pretending he was going to purchase it.
‘Reckless driving’ leads to fatal crash in southwest Las Vegas neighborhood

A woman died Thursday night after a “violent” crash in a residential area in the southwest valley. The unidentified woman, 40, of Las Vegas, was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima when the crash happened at 8:03 p.m. on West Gomer Road at South Cimarron Road, the Metropolitan Police Department said. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to University Medical Center, where she later died, police said.
4-year-old critically injured after ‘darting’ into busy Las Vegas road, woman taken into custody

A woman has been arrested after a 4-year-old boy was in critical condition after “darting” into a busy road and getting struck by a passing vehicle, police said. Through a statement issued Thursday, the Metropolitan Police Department said a woman “was taken into custody for child abuse and neglect resulting in substantial bodily harm” in relation to the crash, which happened at 6:22 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of West Lake Mead Boulevard and Jeanne Drive.

A 4-year-old boy was in critical condition Wednesday night after “darting” into a busy road and getting struck by a passing vehicle, police said. The crash happened at 6:22 p.m. at the intersection of West Lake Mead Boulevard and Jeanne Drive. In a statement, the Metropolitan Police Department said a “2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor was traveling westbound on Lake Mead, approaching the intersection of Jeanne in the right of two travel lanes. A lone juvenile was running on the roadway on Jeanne.
Motorcyclist, going at ‘high rate of speed,’ dies in northwest Las Vegas crash

A motorcyclist died Friday night after a crash in the northwest valley. The crash happened at 5:58 p.m. at the intersection of West Lake Mead Boulevard and James Bilbray Drive, the Metropolitan Police Department said. In a statement, police said “a 2022 Suzuki GSX 600 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Lake Mead, approaching James Bilbray in the middle of three travel lanes at a high rate of speed.
