It seems that everywhere I turn recently, news about the wine industry is full of doom and gloom. Demand for wine has been falling globally as consumption per capita continues to drop, forcing growers in parts of Australia, France and California (among others) to very publicly address the demand-supply imbalance by pulling out vineyards that are simply no longer profitable, as the wine they produce can no longer find a home.

Life & StyleFood & WineWine ReviewsI really don’t know what was in the water on the particular Monday that I tasted a raft of these Pinot Gris but it seemed like every wine was on song. Perhaps it was the vintage as the majority of these are from 2024 — which winemakers seem pretty bullish about — or perhaps the wineries have had a gentle hand on the tiller, as they all seemed somehow effortless.

While I taste blind, I am mindful of trying to put the wines into brackets that are either similarly dry, or sweet, then ascending from bone dry to lusciously sweet.
