Water is fast becoming one of the world’s most precious resources. Few areas remain untouched as droughts take hold, rivers run dry and even countries with well-developed water infrastructure struggle to keep the taps on and provide a safe supply of water. In North America, for instance, an estimated 20% to 50% of water is lost to leaks. In Europe, agricultural areas, tourist hotspots and major conurbations are all becoming vulnerable to water stress.
