Tekamah residents soon will be taking part in a survey needed to help further the application process for economic development grants. During its April 10 meeting, Tekamah City Council met with Burt County Economic Development Executive Director Cindy Chatt regarding a community attitudes survey. She said staff members at the Northeast Nebraska Ecomonic Development District office in Norfolk will help administer the survey and compile its results.

The recent snowstorm that paralyzed much of eastern Nebraska two weeks ago has fostered a review of city processes and facilities. Acting at Thursday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Jane Walford appointed council members Matt Cass and Kelly Adamson, Street Department head Levi Warren and Water Department chief Jarrod McElroy to a committee to make the review.

Burt County is getting its own forest. The Nebraska chapter of the national organization Honor and Remember has planted 90 trees at Summit Lake State Recreation Area west of Tekamah. The newly planted forest is in memory of Burt County veterans or first responders who either died in the line of duty or passed away from a service-related condition—such as cancer caused by Agent Orange.
