You may have heard that the Food and Drug Administration recently approved a new pain drug. This is huge news because it has been more than 20 years since a new non-opioid drug was approved for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. This new drug is approved for use in treating acute pain, not chronic pain. For now, it is approved for prescription use only. Although not widely available at this point, it will soon be an option for prescribing.

While researching the occurrence of neck injuries related to head injuries recently, I came across a study that surprised me. The study involved detailed examination of patients that had experienced head injuries but were not diagnosed with a neck injury. Close examination by experts later revealed practically all patients with a head injury also had significant neck injuries that were not caught during routine evaluations.
