Student/athletes bank National Bank bursaries

The National Bank Bursary Program has been a longstanding part of the Aléo Foundation calendar and this year the program presented the 33rd edition of the bursary ceremonies held in partnership with the Aléo Foundation. There were 22 athletes from 18 different sports sharing in the $100,000 of bursaries and services. There were five local student/athletes among the bursary recipients.
Seventh Edition of Patrice Bernier and Friends raises $30,000

The seventh edition of Patrice Bernier and Friends raised over $30,000 during its event on March 30th at Collège Montmorency in Laval. Since 2017, the event has raised more than $150,000. The money raised will be used to raise funds for the Patrice Bernier Foundation, which aims to directly help young people by allowing them to participate in physical activities in a safe and inspiring environment. “I’m so happy to see how far the soccer event has come year after year,” Patrice Bernier said.

Last Thursday evening at Verdun’s Le Trèfle Taverne Montreal Alliance president Jo-annie Charbonneau, members of the Alliance front office and players welcomed fans to enjoy the Canadian Elite Basketball League’s (CEBL) draft. It was important to host this event as the Alliance held the first overall pick of the draft. With the number one pick, Montreal tapped Park Extension’s own Sultan Haider Bhatti a standout player with the Brandon University Bobcats.
Chevaliers sweep Laval-Montreal to claim the Jimmy Ferrari Cup

The quest for the Jimmy Ferrari Cup, emblematic of the Quebec U18 AAA Development Hockey League champion, came down to a battle between a pair of top teams in their division. The Lévis Chevaliers of the East Division and the CCM Division’s Laval-Montreal Rousseau Royal squared off for the cup and a berth in the TELUS Cup U18 AAA Canadian Championship. It was the Chevaliers punching their ticket to Fraser Valley, BC following a three-game sweep of the Royal.
Canuck U11 B girls savour silver at Lac Regionals

The Cote St. Luc Canuck U11 B girls hockey team were sizzling hot in the Lac St. Louis Regional Playoffs coming away with a hard-fought silver medal performance. The squad finished the regular season in seventh place in the standings, but the Canucks made an incredible post-season run at the regionals. The Canucks got some payback on the number one team of the season, the Dollard Blades following a 5-4 loss to close out round robin portion of regional play.
Lions claw out win over College Durocher in tough Metro Series match-up

There was little breathing space in the first two games of the RSEQ U15 D I Releve Metro Series between the College Durocher St. Lambert Impact and the LCC Lions. The Impact edged the Lions 3-2 by a shootout for a home ice win to open the set. LCC responded with an ever so tight 1-0 overtime win at home, then followed up with a 5-1 road win to secure the series. In game one goalies Andrew Morton of LCC and the Impact’s Edward Nadeau gave no quarter to the opposing shooters.
Rocket split four game work week

The Laval Rocket made a trek west with four games on the docket against the Manitoba Moose and Abbotsford Canucks. While there were two setbacks, one came as a shootout loss, so the Rocket earned a point in that defeat. The week started off with a pair of wins in Manitoba against the Moose. Tuesday night Laval earned a 3-2 win on goals by Alex Barré-Boulet, Florian Xhekaj and Sean Farrell. Wednesday night the Rocket were 3-1 winners over the Moose.
Golden girls, silver lining and bronze memories for Lac St. Louis

When all was said and done at the Hockey Quebec Chevrolet Cup girls’ Provincial Championships, Lac St. Louis squads did the region proud with an eight medal haul. There were a quartet of golds, a trio of silvers and a pair of bronze finishes to the busy tournament hosted by the Saguenay-Lac St. Jean region. The MRO Banshees were good for two Provincial banners and a bronze with the U11 A and U13 A teams going golden and the U18 B Banshees taking the bronze.
Rennie Predators open strong in Metro Series play

The John Rennie Predators made a strong statement in their opening RSEQ U15 D I Releve Metro Series playoff run with an 8-1 win over the College Regina Assumpta Panthers at Pointe Claire’s Bob Birnie Arena. The Preds erupted for seven unanswered goals to break open an early 1-1 tie with the Panthers. Bryton Cantello had a two-goal game, both coming on powerplay chances, and Dante Molino also potted a pair in the Preds win.
Warriors shoot past Stars in U18 AA girls’ hockey

The Lac St. Louis Warriors doubled-up on the visiting Yamaska-Missisquoi Stars with a 4-2 win in Ligue Québécoise de Hockey Féminin (LQHF) U18 AA play at the Kirkland Arena Saturday afternoon. The victory keeps the Warriors nicely on top of the West Division of the LQHF with some daylight between Lac St. Louis and the second place Laurentides Mistral. The Lac Pack snapped a 2-2 deadlock courtesy of Anabelle Bourdages, who potted a pair earning her the game-winner and an insurance marker.
