Last Saturday night’s card of UFC 315: MUHAMMAD vs. DELLA MADDALENA to the Bell Centre marked a long overdue return to Montreal by this wildly popular combat sport. It had been 10 years since the octagon was in town and to mark the occasion, fans were treated to numerous activities leading up to the main event. Through the initiative of Tourism Montreal, UFC 315 drew fans from across the province, the country and around the world.

This year, Loto-Québec and the Aléo Foundation celebrated the renewal of a unique partnership highlighting Quebec para-athletes. The 18th edition of the program recognized and encouraged the careers of 13 para-athletes, who received $52,000 in bursaries, in addition to the accompanying services offered for life by the Foundation. The Loto-Québec Bursary Program annually recognizes the achievements of athletes with physical or sensory limitations exclusively.

Montreal’s Iulian Ciobanu was perfect from start to finish in the second leg of the Santiago World Boccia Challenger earning the veteran para-athlete two gold medals. The double gold standard by Ciobanu helped Team Canada to a seven-medal haul at the event. He was undefeated in the BC 4 individual meet and then followed that with another perfect effort in the BC 4 pairs discipline with his longtime partner Alison Levine of Cote St. Luc. “It’s a great start to 2025,” Iulian Ciobanu said.

Players in the Montreal Mavericks/Montreal Alouettes flag football program had the opportunity to learn from members of the Als last Sunday at LaSalle’s Riverside Park. Quarterbacks Davis Alexander and Jonathan Senecal along with receivers Austin Mack and Cole Spieker worked alongside a group of Maverick players helping them to sharpen their skills. Montreal’s Austin Mack has been involved in a few sessions with the Mavericks. “It’s hard to tell (who has more fun),” Austin Mack said.
