    Signs featuring veterans who served in the U.S. Military dotted the Field of Honor at the Roanoke Valley Veterans’ Museum over Memorial Day weekend. The backdrop of the Field of Honor is Hollister artist Karen Harley’s painted mural on the west wall of the museum. It was the second installment of the Hometown Hero Program, originally brought to the museum by retired Air Force Brigadier and museum curator General David Johnson for Veterans Day 2024.

    When disaster strikes in Macon, Churchill Five Forks Volunteer Fire Department personnel will likely be the first at the scene. The public can meet the Churchill Five Forks firefighters and learn what their mission entails from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at the 1168 Churchill Road Firehouse in Macon. The department will showcase its new Engine 124, a 2024 Freightliner Rosenbauer, C.W. Williams, a firefighting tool with a 1,500-gallon-per-minute capacity and a foam system.

    On Tuesday, June 3, at approximately 11:25 a.m., Michael Fahey was located and arrested by deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office deep in the woods near the 1900 block of Ankum Road in Gasburg. According to a BCSO press release, law enforcement officers had searched for Fahey since Sunday morning. At 1:49 a.m. Sunday, the BCSO joined Roanoke Rapids Police Department personnel on a vehicle pursuit that ended on a wooded path off Hammock Road in the Gasburg area. Fahey fled the scene.

    Van Goh, Picasso, and other influential artists inspired the paintings featured on the Acorn Center lobby walls Thursday. The creative artists responsible for the artwork were none other than the students of Littleton Academy. The students’ work drew a full house of patrons eager to see their creations. “They’ve been working on their artwork throughout the year, and they had seven different artists they learned about,” Olivia Wiggins, Littleton’s Frank’s Fine Arts co-owner, said.
