Toonami was one of the most chill places to watch action cartoons. The Cartoon Network block embraced lo-fi beats and a sleek sci-fi setting. Hosted by the smooth-voiced Moltar and TOM, there was a chill atmosphere when compared to the more eccentric cartoon blocks on television. While Toonami still exists today, it has continued more as a late-night block catered towards teens and adults.

The 2000s were an exciting time for cartoons as the new millennium began. With the advent of cable-exclusive cartoons in the previous decade, there was plenty of potential for the future. Cable gave more freedom in crafting cartoons than one would ever expect to air on network television. While Saturday morning network television was on its way out, the cartoons didn’t stop coming. They only got better with shows about aliens, samurai, and warriors of the elements.

Sesame Street has thankfully found a new streaming home after being abandoned by HBO. The TV channel and streaming service had initially purchased the rights for the early-education show, but decided recently not to renew the contract. With Netflix purchasing the long-running show, Sesame Street is saved for another season. Sadly, Sesame Street has to seek funding from bigger platforms to continue being an entertaining educational show for families.

Sometimes a film is so good that you can’t wait to see where it goes next. All the potential is there to explore a wider cinematic landscape. But a sequel isn’t always in the cards, either due to a lack of box office sales, problems with production, or just a lack of creative talent. Even though the passage of time makes it unlikely a sequel will ever happen, it’s still fun to speculate on what could’ve been.
