After graduating from North Royalton High School in 2000 and going off to college in New York, David Joseph Craig headed off to the West Coast to try to make something of himself in show business. His accomplishments include serving as a producer on two Joel Edgerton-directed movies, 2015’s “The Gift” and 2018’s “Boy Erased,” in which Craig also performed. This feels like the big moment for him, however.

Growing up outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, in Salisbury, Kristy Woodson Harvey’s goal had been to write stories about real people. However, after getting a journalism degree from the University of North Carolina and earning a master’s degree in English from East Carolina University, the future best-selling author found a journalism gig tough to come by in the late 2000s.

The selling point of “Karate Kid: Legends” is the pairing of initial franchise star Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, a star of the 2010 reboot that shares the title of the 1984 original, “The Karate Kid.”Their characters, Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han, respectively, come together to train a young man for a big karate tournament. Train him they do, of course, but those characters are little more than window dressing in a film that, fortunately, has a compelling young star in Ben Wang.
