We’ve got a lot of doughnut, donut, do-nut shops in Cabarrus County, but still haven’t caught up with the number of Starbucks. We’re getting one closer. No. 1A new Japanese donut shop coming. Yo Mochi Donut shop is coming to Afton Ridge in Kannapolis. The shop is expected to open this summer. It will be located near T-Mobile and Haverty’s in Afton Ridge. The address is 6052 Bayfield Parkway, Concord. It is in the city of Kannapolis, but the mailing address is Concord. So what is a Japanese donut?

This is a big week for Downtown Concord. Last week we told you a bit about the grand reopening after the streetscape's completion. No. 1The new Concord Rotary Clock. Visitors downtown will notice the new clock which stands at the corner of Cabarrus Avenue and Union Street. The clock was was dedicated earlier this week. This piece of clockwork brings to downtown a sense of the past to a newly redeveloped streetscape.

The Concord Parkway bridge project is making progress. Cabarrus Avenue remains closed. Tommy Hilfiger had a photo shoot at Frank Liske Park. And the N.C. Department of Transportation has other projects going, including property auctions. These are part of a new, semi-regular feature in the Independent Tribune called "Word on the Streets." We will look at road projects, traffic and things that may affect your ability to get around.

This week's Friday Five includes music, traffic, construction, comics, plants and naked gardening!? No. 1A community band festival. The Piedmont Community Band is hosting its inaugural Carolinas Community Band Festival this Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.The free event will be held at the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center (the auditorium at A. L. Brown High School). It will feature four community bands and three small ensembles.
