Denton ISD recently named Morgann Hawkins as the next principal of Blanton Elementary, just north of Lantana. Hawkins replaces Dr. Landon Turrubiarte, who was recently named the principal of Stephens Elementary in Shady Shores. Hawkins will assume her role as principal of Blanton Elementary beginning July 1, according to a district news release. She most recently served as the assistant principal of McNair Elementary since 2021, and has more than a decade of experience in public education.

Three Marcus High School students recently won a $50,000 prize for creating a brain-controlled bionic prosthetic leg. Chanyoung Kim, Eeshaan Prashanth and Samuel Skotnikov won the Gordon E. Moore Award for Positive Outcomes for Future Generations from the Society for Science at the 75th Annual Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair. Their project, called Neuroflex, could make robotic limbs easier to use and less expensive, according to the Society for Science.

Earlier this month, Lewisville ISD announced the appointments of four new principals, including three at Flower Mound schools. April Kenely has been named the new principal of The LISD STEM Academy at Donald Elementary, according to a district news release. Kenely most recently served as principal of Garden Ridge Elementary, a position she held for three years.

At its May 13 meeting, the Highland Village City Council approved a contract for nearly $2 million for a Water Line Replacement Project. The $1,921,655 agreement was awarded to Dickerson Construction Company, according to a city news release.

Denton ISD announced earlier this month that it has selected Dylan Taylor as the next principal of Harpool Middle School. Taylor replaces Dr. Colleen Grindle, who is leaving the position after three years to pursue another opportunity, according to a district news release. Taylor, assistant principal at Rodriguez Middle School since 2021, will assume his role as principal of Harpool beginning July 1. “This opportunity means the world to me,” Taylor said.
