    The City of Calgary is out with its 2025 property tax rates after receiving final input from the provincial budget. The city says the typical homeowner will see a property tax increase of about $29 a year. For a home assessed at $697,000, the municipal tax increase will be $11 more a month ($134 annually) and the provincial portion will be $18 more a month ($218 annually).

    It appears the NDP has not received any kind of new leader bump after Naheed Nenshi's landslide leadership victory last month. A recent Abacus Data survey has found support for the party at 40 per cent, the same as a survey back in March. It leaves the opposition well behind the governing United Conservative Party (UCP) and actually down four points from the last provincial election. The UCP has 54 per cent support, down one point since the last poll.

    The province's biggest catholic school district says provincial funding falls short of meeting the needs of students. Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) trustee's approved the 2024-25 fiscal plan on Wednesday. It includes a $21.5 million operating deficit which will be covered off using savings.

    The provincial government has released a report into the finances of the City of Chestermere after the mayor and three councillors were dismissed late last year. Mayor Jeff Colvin and three city councillors were fired by the province after the UCP government said they didn't follow a number of directives to help improve the way the municipality was being run.

    Nearly one-third of Albertans believe the proposed policy changes regarding care for transgender youth are an attack on them and represent a danger, a recent poll by Leger reads. The poll's method involved an online survey of just over 1,000 Albertans, and the questions were on the changes proposed by Premier Danielle Smith in recent weeks. But almost half, or 46 per cent, think policies will benefit children in the long run. The poll shows how divided people are on the issue.
