    BackgroundThe U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) introduced its first green building rating system, LEED 1.0, in the United States back in 1998. “LEED” is short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and LEED is currently “the world’s most widely used green building rating system”1 for the built environment.
