San Diego FC will enter the two-week international break on a positive note, following a relatively easy 2-0 win against Austin FC at Snapdragon Stadium that avenged a 2-1 road loss in March. Both goals came from players who grew up in the county — midfielder Luca de la Torre in the 60th midfielder and the clincher in injury time by substitute Milan Iloski literally moments after he ran on the field. It wasn’t all roses and sunshine, though.

There’s no turning back now. San Diego State and four other Mountain West universities officially submitted notifications of departure, multiple sources within the conference confirmed. The five announced last September that they intend to join a re-formed Pac-12 starting in the 2026-27 academic year but faced a June 1 deadline to formally notify the Mountain West to avoid their exit fee doubling from an estimated $18 million to $36 million.

San Diego FC hosts Austin on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium. The next day, the club will bid a temporary farewell to Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, Anders Dreyer and five other starters. They’ll scatter to the four winds — to Finland, Denmark, Egypt, Panama, Northern Ireland, Utah and Connecticut. An official FIFA international window begins Monday and lasts through June 10. National teams can summon players, and their pro clubs, in most cases, must release them whether they have games scheduled.

San Diego FC said it will ban 33 fans who brawled following last week’s match against the LA Galaxy at Snapdragon Stadium. The fans “will be banned indefinitely from attending all Club and MLS events, including home and away matches,” the club said in a statement posted Friday morning. SDFC officials said they’re working with stadium officials, the Galaxy and local law enforcement to confirm the identities of the fans and enforce the bans.

CARLSBAD – Cal played in the 2024 NCAA men’s golf championships at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa and finished 20th with a pair of freshmen in the lineup, Ethan Fang and Eric Lee. Fang and Lee were at La Costa again this year and on Wednesday evening were hoisting the national championship trophy … for Oklahoma State after a 4-1 match play victory against Virginia.
