This film got a limited release in December, 2024, probably only one or two cinemas in order to qualify for the Academy Awards. This film was critically acclaimed. The National Board of Review ranked it as one of the Top 10 Independent Films. It was nominated for a Gotham Award, a Spirit Award and a BAFTA. It got a wider release in January, 2025, with the hope that it would get an Oscar nomination. Unfortunately, it didn't.

This is a Canadian film that got a limited theatrical release last year both in Canada and in the United States. I try to pay attention to limited releases, but this one was so small that I overlooked it. Canadian films often get overlooked. I watched this film the weekend of the 13th Canadian Screen Awards where this film was nominated for two prizes, Best Original Score and Best Original Song.

An older man trains him and the boy fights the bullies in a karate tournament. This was the template.

Judy Blume is an author who has been writing books about children and young adults since the late 1960's. Her most famous is probably Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret (1970), which was one of the most challenged books because of its frank discussions about children and sex, particularly teenage sex issues like menstruation. There was an adaptation of that book that was released in theaters in 2023, along with an award-winning documentary called Judy Blume Forever (2023).

BEST TV SHOWS OF 2024. The majority of the new shows I loved last year were adaptations of true crime stories. Also, many people discovered Aaron Pierre via his Netflix film and has become a star on the rise. https://t.co/heXL7ZcYCD https://t.co/MYsGwrKIvW
