Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwara Rao of the Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the State government not to issue appointment letters to the candidates who had been selected for the Group-I posts through a main examination conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission. The Judge said the government, however, can go ahead with the process of verification of certificates of candidates selected for the Group-I posts.

Observing that it had been a practice for the GHMC to permit illegal/unauthorised constructions and then consider them for regularisation, Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy on Tuesday directed the GHMC Commissioner and HMDA Commissioner to file a detailed report over “illegal structures” at Manikonda Jagir village of Gandipet mandal in Rangareddy district. The judge directed both the top officials to appear before the Bench personally if they fail to furnish the report by July 2.

The Union government has revoked the passport of retired IPS officer T. Prabhakar Rao, prime accused in the sensational case of eavesdropping on phone calls of politicians, bureaucrats and a judge of High Court. According to police records, Mr. Rao fled the country soon after learning about the registration of the phone tapping case by Punjagutta police in March 2024. He is absconding and hiding in the USA.

Telangana High Court on Tuesday (April 8, 2025) dismissed a criminal appeal petition filed by five persons who were awarded death sentence in the Dilsukhnagar bomb blast case of 2013. The five convicts were alleged Indian Mujahideen operatives. The blasts triggered by them resulted in the deaths of 18 people, while several others sustained injuries. With the dismissal of their appeal petition, the death penalty awarded by the NIA Special Court was confirmed by the High Court.

Before leaving for USA, retired IPS officer T. Prabhakar Rao, the prime accused in telephone tapping case, “has deliberately cleaned up his house and caused the disappearance of all evidence”, said the Telangana police department in the High Court. Stating this in a counter affidavit filed in the HC, P. Venkatagiri, Jubilee Hills Assistant Commissioner of Police and investigating officer of telephone tapping case, said this showed how the accused officer evaded the process of law.
