The Atlanta-raised singer, songwriter and sometimes actor CeeLo Green was one of four people awarded honorary diplomas by Atlanta Public Schools this year. The school board adopted a new initiative allowing honorary diplomas to be bestowed for the following reasons: a person who made exceptional contributions to education, the community or a particular field; a student who died close to graduating; or a student who died during military service that interrupted high school.

The Clayton County school board approved a proposal on Monday to establish a charter school in the district focused on students with special needs, a decision several parents say will bring services to a part of metro Atlanta that is under-resourced. Tapestry Public Charter School was established in DeKalb County in 2014. It has a student population that’s 50% neurotypical and 50% neurodivergent.

The dismissal bell rang for the last time Thursday at Spalding Drive Elementary School in Sandy Springs and Parklane Elementary in East Point. The Fulton County school board Board of Education voted in February to close the schools, meaning hundreds of students will attend other schools next year. Some families have opted to stay in Fulton. Some families have opted to go to the school they're now zoned for. Others will attend charter or private schools. Others have moved.
