Out of 3,300 airports in the United States, only 11 percent are strictly commercial service airports. Eighty-nine percent of airports in the United States supply general aviation needs. This statistic was one of many shared during a presentation on the history of Cape Cod Gateway Airport held at the Sandwich Public Library last Thursday, July 11. Airport Manager Katie R. Servis said that the history of the airport located in Hyannis dates back 96 years with the first plane landing in June 1928.

There were three teams in action Sunday afternoon, all of which were on the road in Martha’s Vineyard. These games were originally scheduled to take place on Saturday but were rescheduled due to the conditions of Hurricane Lee. The field hockey team was the only team to walk away with a victory, and did so in convincing fashion while the boys and girls soccer teams both lost their games to the Vineyard.
