    In 1955, E.B. White wrote, “The two moments when New York seems most desirable, when the splendor falls all round about and the city looks like a girl with leaves in her hair, are just as you are leaving and must say goodbye and just as you return and can say hello.” Over the years, my grandfather became increasingly adept at this, both the leaving and the returning, and thankfully the writing about it.

    Dorset Council chiefs have agreed to transform a care home in Bridport into the county’s first reablement centre. The former Sidney Gale care home will be converted into a recovery hub for elderly people. The 60-bed facility will offer short-term intensive care and therapy in a home-like environment. A planning application is likely to come forward to planners at Dorset Council early next year and construction could begin in early 2026.
