(WVIR) - The Forest Lakes community in Albemarle County has six brand new pickleball courts. “It’s really nice,” says Forest Lakes resident and pickleball player Xing Qi. “So proud of our community.”“I think they’re fantastic,” Brian Farmer says about the courts. “They did a nice job of refinishing them.”The old pickleball nets set up on tennis courts were thrown out.

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Louisa County’s Kurt Fleming is getting ready for the biggest bout of his pro boxing career. The 33-year-old is part of a ten-fight undercard Saturday night, June 21, at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, before the main event featuring Vito Mielnicki Jr. and Kamil Gardzielik. Fleming was a three-sport star at Louisa County High School. He was selected in baseball’s major league draft and played one season of college football at Clemson. He began boxing five years ago.

(WVIR) - Former UVA basketball star Sam Brunelle is headed to the U.S. Naval Academy to be an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team under head coach Tim Taylor. “I’ve been excited ever since I found out I was hired. I’m just grateful that coach Taylor thought so much of me,” says Brunelle.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - In the final minutes of Tuesday’s state quarterfinal game, June 10, against Park View, Gilbert Kashindi scored the final goal to ice the game. CHS won 3-0 keeping the black knights undefeated, now 17-0-3. “We’re always going to create a lot of chances in a game,” says CHS head coach Martin Braun. “It’s kind of our mindset is to put a lot of pressure on the opposing defense.”Braun says his team is talented, well-rounded, and focused.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Dozens of kids are learning the fundamentals of basketball and boxing at the second annual Stick & Move Youth Day Camp. The free camp organized by the Legacy Driven nonprofit organization run by former University of Virginia basketball star Travis Watson.
