To the editor: We hear at regular intervals from several sources about how lucrative and wonderful the Kinross/Contango Ore Manh Choh mine operation has turned out to be, but I wonder why we don’t hear anything about how it’s working for the folks in Tetlin? How much in royalty payments have they received? What is it being used for? Has the quality of their lives been improved? Are they happy with the deal they are getting?

To the editor: I just read the story about Contango Ore’s loss of profits and I’m calling BS on CEO Van Nieuwenhuyse’s excuses. His claim that the bridge weight limit is “new information” is totally false: one of the main reasons those ore trucks ended up with 16 axles was to spread the weight out to get over the bridges. Bridge weight limits along the whole route have been a known issue for these ore trucks from the beginning and were discussed at length during the corridor study meetings.
