OTTUMWA, Iowa — One man is dead and a woman has been arrested following an apartment fire in Ottumwa, police said in a release. The Ottumwa Police Department was called to a structure fire with people still inside around 3:30 a.m. Sunday on 5th Street West. The Ottumwa Fire Department also responded to the call. Police said two people were inside the apartment when the fire was found. One of those people was able to make it outside via a third story window.

PERRY, Iowa — A man is facing attempted murder and arson charges after allegedly trying to burn down a house with people inside, according to the Perry Police Department. Police said they were called to a home in the 1700 block of 3rd Street in Perry around 4 p.m. Monday for a disturbance and possible fire. That is about a half mile east of Perkins Park. The Perry Fire Department also responded to the home, and was able to contain the fire to the house’s back porch before it was put out.

CALHOUN COUNTY, Iowa — One man is dead and another injured after a two-vehicle crash Thursday in Calhoun County. The Iowa State Patrol says it happened Thursday around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 20 and Zearing Avenue. That is about 15 miles southwest of Fort Dodge. A preliminary crash report from ISP says 84-year-old Michael Leith of Manson was going north on Zearing Avenue on an ATV and did not yield to the right of way across the highway.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Former President Donald Trump is once again foregoing the debate stage ahead of the Iowa caucuses, instead opting to join Fox News hosts for a town hall in Des Moines. The network announced the town hall with Trump will be held the same day — Wednesday, Jan. 10 — as CNN's Republican presidential debate at Drake University. FOX News said the town hall will be co-moderated by anchors Bret Baier, host of Special Report, and Martha MacCallum, from The Story.

URBANDALE, Iowa — A semi truck driver is facing several charges, including vehicular homicide, after a tow truck operator was killed in a crash Sunday night. The Iowa State Patrol said a tow truck was legally parked on the shoulder of I-80 shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday while helping another vehicle. An Iowa Department of Transportation Highway Helper was also stationed at the scene, directing traffic.
