THE KING POWER STADIUM, LEICESTER // Trent Alexander-Arnold fired Liverpool within a whisker of the Premier League title by scoring with his side's 25th shot of the game against Leicester City. Arne Slot's side was going to win the title regardless, even after Arsenal hammered Ipswich Town earlier in the day, but was toiling in front of goal. Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota had missed big chances before Alexander-Arnold eventually beat goalkeeper Mads Hermansen with a well-taken effort.

Liverpool could win the Premier League title today if it beats Leicester City, though it would need Ipswich Town to pull of an unlikely comeback victory against Arsenal earlier in the day. And Arne Slot has named his starting XI at the King Power Stadium. Alisson Becker is in goal with Conor Bradley at right-back. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who returned to training this week, is fit enough for the bench. Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Kostas Tsimikas make up the rest of the back four.

Today could be the day. Liverpool heads to Leicester knowing it could be confirmed as the Premier League champion if all goes to plan. Arne Slot's side is a maximum of just six points away from having the title confirmed, but it could be all done and dusted today. Arsenal is now officially the only side that can catch the Reds, and even Mikel Arteta's side could drop out of the race today.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract that will put an end to the questions about his future after months of speculation. The 33-year-old Dutch center-back had been inside the final season of his previous deal, which was due to expire in the summer of 2025. But he has now penned an extension seven years after arriving from Southampton in a $95m (£75m/€90m) switch.
