He knew they were worn down after a grueling, injury-plagued season that featured plenty of adversity. But they had been presented with the opportunity to play for a national championship — something that would involve quickly getting back to work instead of simply celebrating their latest accomplishment.

Matt Allibone (@bad2theallibone) __ Mike Brown left coaching 38 years ago because he wanted to be present as a father. He stuck with it the last few years partially because of the joy it gave him as a father. He’s always been centered by family. So it makes sense the longtime Garnet Valley boys’ coach is retiring for the same reason. Brown recently announced his retirement after 13 seasons leading the Jaguars.

But Deshawn Yates and Neumann-Goretti had other plans. The junior standout had a game to remember against Penncrest in the quarterfinals, putting up 34 points.
