WASHINGTON -- Tax day 2025 has officially passed for most taxpayers as the deadline to file and pay your 2024 taxes was Wednesday, April 15. While many Americans paid their taxes ahead of the deadline, the Internal Revenue Service is reminding those who didn’t that there are options available to help reduce any potential penalties and interest for not filing on time. The IRS says the biggest thing late filers can do is pay their taxes as soon as possible.

Ford has issued a pair of recalls impacting an estimated 148,000 trucks and SUVs, according to Reuters. The first recall involves certain 2017–18 Ford F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator models. An estimated 123,611 vehicles are involved with the recall due to a fluid leak that can impact braking performance and stopping distance. If that happens, it can increase the risk of a crash. To correct the issue, dealerships will replace affected parts at no charge to the customer.

LANSING, MI -- Sometimes you just have to act when you have a good feeling about something. That mentality worked for a Wayne County woman recently as she won a $500,000 jackpot playing the Michigan Lottery’s 50X Wild Time instant game. “I went to the gas station with $15 in my pocket and had a good feeling about the number 13, so I asked the worker for one of the tickets in the bin labeled 13,” said the 52-year-old winner, who chose to remain anonymous.

SANTA MONICA, CA -- A grocery store known for high-end “luxury” shopping had a little something extra cooking near its smoothie bar recently. According to Today, the Erewhon grocery store in Santa Monica was issued a “major” violation by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health after cockroaches were found in the store’s tonic bar on April 8. The tonic bar is an area of the store where pastries, acai bowls, and a “viral” $20 smoothie are created.

WASHINGTON -- A free tax filing service available to millions of taxpayers is expected to be dissolved by President Donald Trump’s administration. According to the Associated Press, the IRS’ Direct File program is set to be eliminated soon after it was started under former President Joe Biden. The program is available in numerous states and offers users a free and easy to use tax filing service. The program was launched last year as a pilot program in 12 states and was made permanent in May 2024.
