The Minnesota Vikings attacked free agency when the league year began in March. They addressed holes on the offensive and defensive lines, added secondary help, and returned three key veterans: Aaron Jones, Harrison Smith, and Byron Murphy, Jr.Their approach erased many glaring, immediate holes across the roster. If the Vikings can have as much success with their new free-agent additions as they did last season, they can take a massive step towards contending for the NFC Championship next year.

The Minnesota Vikings head into the draft with their biggest needs still being interior linemen on both sides of the ball and help in the defensive backfield — most importantly at the corner position. They have made splashy moves at all of those spots, bringing back CB Byron Murphy and acquiring C Ryan Kelly, OL Will Fries, OL Justin Skule, DL Jonathan Allen, DL Javon Hargrave, CB Jeff Okudah, CB Isaiah Rodgers, and DB Tavierre Thomas, which is meaningful help in needed positions.

When you grow up with the last name Fries, you will hear people refer to you as every different type of French fry. Are you struggling to make a decision? Waffle Fries. Put on a few pounds? Steak Fries. Weekend at the beach? Boardwalk Fries. So it was no surprise that new Vikings’ C Ryan Kelly said he gave new RG Will Fries the potato-related nickname “Spud” after the Indianapolis Colts drafted him in 2021.

Kevin O’Connell called Aaron Rodgers “a supercomputer” before the Minnesota Vikings’ matchup against the New York Jets last year. “Big field vision,” he raved. “Sees everything, has the ability to check and get into whatever he needs to.”However, the Vikings were a shock to Rodgers’ system in London. Brian Flores’ defense held Rodgers to 29 of 54 passing for 244 yards. Andrew Van Ginkel ran one of Rodgers’ three picks back for a touchdown, and Minnesota’s defense also forced a fumble.

The Minnesota Vikings have set themselves up beautifully to take the best player available with their selections in the 2025 draft. They have aggressively addressed every pressing need with which they entered the offseason. Given their roster holes and dearth of draft capital, they had to spend deliberately in free agency.

Imagining Dan Campbell crying, screaming, and throwing up when the Vikings put on tape of Jefferson vs the Lions during the discussion of this rule change. https://t.co/qPzRkTgE4u

Detroit’s proposal to eliminate an automatic first down as a penalty imposed for defensive holding and illegal contact did not pass, despite the Lions’ pleas.

Oh hey they added this guy! Let's go.

Was really impressed with Jordan Mason in the Vikings' game against the 49ers. He runs so hard. Here are a number of plays where he did a great job after contact. https://t.co/ZlK6NnYmgn
