With the 102nd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings took Tai Felton, a wide receiver from Maryland. Vikings fans had to wait a long time between the team taking Donovan Jackson at pick No. 24 and Felton, the last pick of the third round. The wait was extended because Minnesota traded down from 97 to 102, in which it acquired capital to later trade down and acquire Sam Howell as the team’s backup QB. Adding Felton, or any receiver, may have been a bit of a surprise.

In drafting Donovan Jackson with the 24th-overall pick, the Minnesota Vikings have completely revamped their interior offensive line in a single offseason. Gone are Ed Ingram and Garrett Bradbury, in come Will Fries, Ryan Kelly, and Jackson. Blake Brandel will likely “compete” with Jackson, but will likely lose and either be pushed to LT to cover for Christian Darrisaw as he returns from injury, fill in at LG while Jackson does the same, or be pushed to the bench.

On Thursday night, the Minnesota Vikings stood pat at pick No. 24 and selected guard Donovan Jackson from Ohio State, completing the offseason overhaul of their offensive line. Jackson is an exciting piece who profiles as the team’s LG, but also offers intrigue because he played LT for the Buckeyes last year when fellow first-round pick Josh Simmons went out due to injury. The Vikings may plan to play Jackson at LT temporarily if Christian Darrisaw isn’t fully ready by the start of the season.

Options abound for the Minnesota Vikings in this year’s draft. Because the team did a great job of filling roster holes in free agency, the Vikings don’t have a clear top need at any one position. Safety dominates the mock draft results. Still, the need for a starter is a year away because the room has Harrison Smith, Josh Metellus, and Theo Jackson.

The Minnesota Vikings need another running back. They never established a consistent running game in 2024, finishing 19th in total rushing yards. It doesn’t help that Aaron Jones is 30, while Ty Chandler has been inconsistent throughout his time with in Minnesota. The Vikings addressed their running back depth by trading for Jordan Mason, but it doesn’t seem to be a long-term fix. That leaves the draft as the most logical place for the Vikings to address this issue.
