The Houston Rockets used their gavel Sunday, acquiring Phoenix Suns 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 overall pick and five second-round picks. The Miami Heat were consistently a team rumored to be in the mix, but came up short of Phoenix’s asking price for Durant, who was expected to be traded ahead of this week’s NBA Draft.

At this point, it’s common knowledge that the Miami Heat are deeply entrenched in acquiring Kevin Durant, with this week’s draft signaled as Phoenix’s “soft deadline” to offload the 15-time All-Star, who is entering the final year of his contract. In regards to the Heat, what we do know is that the Suns have zero leverage, and that second-year Heat center Kel’el Ware appears to be the sticking point.

(Once again, when we talk about the East being wide open, it only applies to good teams … we will have to see what happens in FA, but Indiana, Cleveland, New York, Detroit and Orlando should be quite good next year … we’ll see what Boston/Milwaukee/Philly do, but alas)

Will be away from my house for a few hours so there’s an 80 percent chance that something Kevin Durant related will happen. Stay alert.
