WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - About a year and a half out from the next gubernatorial election in Kansas, there’s already a crowded field of Republicans vying to flip the governor’s seat following what will be the eight-year run of Democrat Laura Kelly. As of Wednesday, May 14, six Republicans have announced their campaigns for Kansas governor. Of the six, one has formally filed to run for the 2026 Primary next August.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas Department of Health and Environment confirmed that as of Wednesday, May 14, there are 56 confirmed measles cases in Kansas, including two cases in Reno and Sedgwick counties that are “thought to be associated with international travel.” Last week, Sedgwick County reported its first measles case since 2017.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas Department of Transportation announced that for much of the weekend, it will close the ramp from westbound K-96 to southbound Interstate 135 for bridge work. The closure starts at 5 a.m. Saturday and continues into Sunday, KDOT said. As a detour to access southbound I-135, KDOT advised that drivers should use the Hillside exit from westbound K-96, then travel south to 21st Street. KDOT said it expects the ramp to reopen by Sunday afternoon. Copyright 2025 KWCH.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - National reports from President Donald Trump’s visit to Qatar during his Middle East trip confirm a deal signed for Qatar Airways to purchase 160 Boeing jets. Reuters published a photo from Qatar that shows Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg joining Trump and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Wednesday’s signing ceremony in Doha. The president said that the deal was worth $200 billion, but the total value hasn’t been confirmed.
