WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Three people suffered injuries, one critically in a crash reported Wednesday night near Seneca and Interstate 235. The two-vehicle crash involved an SUV and a motorist assist vehicle with the Kansas Highway Patrol, our crew on the scene confirmed. WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A detention deputy with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is continuing his recovery at home following a few days in the hospital as the inmate accused in the attack that injured him made his first court appearance on Friday. In court, a Sedgwick County District Court judge charged 20-year-old James Chavez with one count of aggravated battery and set his bond at $150,000.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Following a determination that he be tried as an adult, a man identified as a third suspect in the February 2024 drive-by shooting that killed a 1-year-old boy at a southeast Wichita apartment complex, faces charges that include first-degree murder. Roames E. Bonner was 17 early last year when the deadly shooting happened at the Sugar Creek Apartments near Pawnee and Oliver.

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KWCH) - The Lee Richardson Zoo, in Garden City, is mourning the death of a long-time zoo resident. The western Kansas zoo confirmed that Mona, a domesticated Bacrtrian camel, died at the age of 29. The zoo said the median life expectancy for Bacterian camels is a little under 18 years. The Lee Richardson Zoo said that Mona arrived in Garden City in December 1996, in time for the grant opening of the Wild Asia habitats the following year.
