Horseheads put forward a $104.8 million spending plan with a 4.56% increase in the tax levy, cutting around $1 million from the original proposal and nearly 3% from the tax levy increase. Meanwhile, Corning-Painted Post voters approved a $144.2 million spending plan with a 2.97% tax levy increase.

Ithaca Police have arrested a man in connection to two recent arson fires at the Asteri Apartments on East Green Street. Officers located 37-year-old Steven Swavely shortly after noon Tuesday in the 100 block of East Green Street and attempted to take him into custody. Police say Swavely resisted arrest, and during the struggle, a bystander released his dog. The dog then attacked multiple people — including officers, civilians, and even Swavely himself.

The classic Broadway hit brings together the talents of Neil Simon and Anton Chekhov, as the character of The Writer narrates a series of comic vignettes. “The stories are droll, the portraits affectionate, the humor infectious and the fun unending,” organizers said. Friday and Saturday performances start at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. The theater is located at 42 Delphine Street.

Motorcycles will roar through Bradford County Saturday to raise money for the Tunnels to Towers Foundation. The John Wampfler Memorial Motorcycle Dice Run is being held by Tanner’s Bar and Grill. Wampfler, a veteran of Operation Desert Storm who passed away in 2022, is owner Ryan Wood’s cousin. Wood called Wampfler a true patriot. The ride will make stops at the Troy VFW, Black Walnut American Legion in Laceyville, then the AM Vets in Towanda before returning to Athens Township.

The Sayre School Board Monday signed off on a nearly $22.8 million budget for the upcoming school year. The 2025–26 plan includes a small property tax increase of just 1 percent. Business Manager Barry Claypool previously reported that overall revenues and expenses both increased by around $260,000 compared to last year — with salaries and benefits making up nearly three-quarters of the budget. Health insurance premiums are also going up, by nearly 9 percent.
