It's a major honour for the Kitchener Rangers' Jussi Ahokas. He has been named the winner of the Matt Leyden Trophy as the Ontario Hockey League Coach of the Year. The award is voted on by the league's general managers. A native of Oulu, Finland, Ahokas is in his second season with the East Avenue Blue and has already led them to consecutive 40-win seasons, including this year, where the Rangers sported a 47-15-4-2 record, the second best in the league despite entering the season ranked 13th.

What began as a pilot project has become an example of how to help homeless people get off the streets permanently. A Better Tent City (ABTC) is celebrating five years in operation, providing tiny homes as people look to transition away from homelessness. The initiative was the brain child of Ron Doyle who wanted to build tiny homes on Lot 42, an event space that he owned. It began with 12 tiny homes but has since expanded to 42 cabins on Ardelt Avenue in Kitchener.

With the majority of the spring thaw behind the region, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) is preparing for summer. This week, crews started installing booms and buoys upstream of dams owned and operated by the GRCA. It's an annual job that warns the thousands of watercourse users each year that dangers lie ahead. The GRCA operates 28 dams across the Grand River Watershed and is required by Transport Canada to install the warnings.

This isn't Bryan May's first rodeo. The Liberal incumbent MP for Cambridge has run five campaigns at this point, and he's dealt with election sign tampering or theft before. In fact, in the 2015 campaign, he said over 150 signs were stolen in one night. They were found months later after being dumped in the Grand River and floating downstream to Paris. But, the number of thefts and the aggression of the vandalism this time around are something he's never seen before.

It looks as though it will be a few more days at least before workers at RoadTrek Inc. in Cambridge are back on the job. Around 80 workers at the camper van manufacturer have been temporarily laid off since last Monday, April 7, after being warned of the move the Friday before. The union representing the workers, Unifor Local 1106, confirmed the temporary layoffs to 570 NewsRadio last week and cited the turmoil in the auto industry amid the uncertainty surrounding U.S. tariffs.
