In brief: With the GFS model showing its first real scareicane of the season, we take a look at the facts and discuss the real potential of tropical development in the second week of June. Verdict? You don’t need to get too worked up. Hurricane season hasn’t even officially opened in the Atlantic yet, and we’ve already got foreboding headlines about the first possible threat.

In brief: A cluster of non-severe storms will impact southern parts of the Houston area primarily this morning. A few additional storms could fire, especially east of I-45 or at the coast later today. We’re also keeping tabs on a chance of storms Sunday, followed by standard June fare next week. Another active radar this morning. It feels like it’s been this way a few times this week! Anyway, there is a complex of non-severe thunderstorms moving into the Sealy and Prairie View areas now.

In brief: In the Pacific, while TD One-E (soon likely to be TS Alvin) isn’t a serious concern, it may bring an influx of moisture to the Desert Southwest this weekend. On the Atlantic side, it looks mostly quiet for the first week or so of the season. As a meteorologist who is devoted to communication, it’s somewhat important to keep tabs on what is “out there.” In other words, what are people seeing or hearing about that they might want to know more about or understand?

In brief: Scattered to numerous storms will impact the Houston area once more today. Severe risks, while low are not zero. We’ll remain unsettled heading into the late week and weekend but hopefully at a less intense pace than we’ve started the week with. Hotter weather lurks on the horizon. After things calmed down yesterday, they stayed calm, thankfully. We will not have that luxury today. Storms (non-severe) are already moving across Matagorda County and Wharton County this morning.

We hope everyone has had a safe and pleasant holiday weekend thus far. This time next week, we’ll officially be in hurricane season. So, we figured today was a good opportunity to just run through the situation as it looks today. We’ll discuss NOAA’s seasonal outlook, the overall state of the Atlantic right now, a forecast for the next week to 10 days, and a reminder that intensity doesn’t always equate to impacts.

This isn't a problem to just sit on. It needs to be addressed immediately.

Scoop from @ssdance: As the National Weather Service scrambles to fill vacancies, staffing at four local forecast offices is so critical that they are no longer operating 24-7. More offices are expected to follow soon. https://t.co/WtcYLQDzIF

Shout out to John Kruk on the Phillies broadcast tonight for calling out “older people” who believe mental health struggles are a result of being “weak minded.”
