Photo: Hannah MorvayHowever flawed my beliefs about fitness may be, I believe the ability to run even a short distance is a hallmark of being fit. I want to delay my loss of that as long as possible, even if it’s at a slow pace. I believe the same about doing a pushup, a pullup, squats, and basic rotational and core exercises, also known as the basic movement patterns of the body. We can push and pull with our upper body, we can push and pull with our legs, and we can twist at our pelvis.

Don’t ride wet trails. That’s good general advice, but that’s not to say we’ll never ride in the rain. Maybe you live in a wet location like the Pacific Northwest or the UK, and some of your trails are designed for wet-weather riding. Or maybe you’re sending private trails at a bike park like Windrock. Maybe you’re out on a big ride and a storm pops up. In any of these situations, a quality pair of waterproof bike pants is a nice item to have.

Bikes like the Cannondale Habit remind me of how enjoyable a dead simple trail bike can be. Cannondale released this version in the spring of 2023. It's got everything that makes it a modern mountain bike: Good geometry and suspension design and SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) compatibility, and nothing to distract it away from what it is: a great all-around trail bike. No flip-chips or storage boxes - nothing like that. Core and enthusiast mountain bikers know the Cannondale name.

The town of Idaho Springs, CO, has long been caught in between bigger destinations. The city sits roughly halfway between the Denver metro area and the dozen or so ski resorts an hour west. Naturally, its location positions it as a great pit stop for coffee on the way to the slopes or for pizza and a beer on the way back down.

While MRP has been around for a long time and is a small mainstay brand in the bike industry, their history is still probably richer for their chain guides where they carved out a strong market. Understandably, when it comes to suspension products, like the MRP Ribbon LT coil fork I tested, this is a much bigger task up against companies like Fox and RockShox, for the same reason, smaller companies find it difficult to compete with SRAM and Shimano in the drivetrain space.
