We all use different tools in our varied, harried lives, things that help us do what we need and hopefully make things easier or less stressful in the process. As someone who spends my working life running this site, testing and reviewing all kinds of consumer hardware, and building several PCs a year, most of the tools I use and love revolve around that.

(Image credit: Tom's Hardware)It's been just about a decade since MSI launched the first RGB-lit motherboard, the X99A Godlike Gaming, with its "2,000" glowing colors to choose from being a far cry from the 16.7 million that were promised not long after. But at the time of the X99A Godlike's launch, I had spent the previous decade of my PC building days buying single-color cold-cathode fluorescent lights (CCFLs) to illuminate my windowed PC cases, from sites like FrozenCPU and Xoxide.com.

It's tough to find any piece of tech right now that's as cheap as it was last year, but Newegg is selling the MSI Spatium M482 2TB for $104.99. That's the lowest price we've seen it since late last year, when it was about $15 less. Still, that's only about $30 more than a good 1TB SSD these days. And while it's not bleeding-edge fast, there isn't much a downside to this MSI drive. This is modern hardware, not some 2021-era clearout deal.

Crucial’s latest X10 portable SSD is faster and roomier than its predecessors, with 6TB and 8TB options, but its USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface feels dated now that USB4 is faster and more common. Society that only reads and reacts to headlines, doesn't want to pay for content, & only believes what confirms their prejudices, somehow still expects #news to be good.

The end result of an excellent week of hard work by a brilliant group of people I'm proud to be a part of. CES: you failed to kill me once again. Better luck next year. https://t.co/t6GfAluDXj https://t.co/vhRWhA7pfk
