EXETER TWP. — Anyone who has followed the Springfield girls lacrosse team this season understands just how vital Katie Keffer is to their success. The junior excels at just about everything whether it’s scoring goals, setting up her teammates, fighting for ground balls or creating turnovers. Keffer always leaves her mark on a game. She did just that in Springfield’s 15-3 win over District 11 champion Pleasant Valley in the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals Saturday at Exeter High.

EXETER TWP. — The Easton High fans weren’t thrilled with what they were watching Saturday, and who could blame them? Their previously undefeated Red Rovers were on the receiving end of a lacrosse lesson courtesy of Springfield in the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals. This is a familiar tune: a team from central or northern Pennsylvania steamrolls local competition all spring, builds up a gaudy record, and then runs headfirst into a Delco lacrosse buzzsaw.

ROYERSFORD — Lauren Maguire had never led off a game in her four years at West Chester East, but you wouldn’t have known it by the way she set the table Friday. The senior outfielder has been a force in the heart of the order, usually batting fifth and delivering clutch base knocks all spring. But when leadoff hitter Daria Cross was sidelined with an injury this week, Maguire was asked to fill two big shoes: take over center field and the top of the lineup card.

BOYERTOWN — It wasn’t easy for Interboro’s Mare Nagle to take it all in, to stand outside the dugout at Boyertown High in the immediate aftermath of a season-ending loss. Not with the sting of finality still fresh, tears in her eyes as she gave coach Dave Wilson a quick hug. But even through that heartbreak, there was plenty of pride. Never losing a Del Val League game across four years? Nagle and the rest of the senior class can say they did that.

SPRINGFIELD — Not much rattles Geena Augello. Springfield’s senior goalie plays the position with tunnel vision. The future Boston University Terrier locked in on every possession and every shot. She’s the backbone of the Cougars’ defense. Cool, composed and quietly dominant. While the offense tends to get most of the plaudits, Augello is often the steady force holding it all together in the crease.
