Huntington Beach was listed on a since-removed Department of Homeland Security list of sanctuary cities that were “defying federal immigration law” late last week, something Mayor Pat Burns called either a misprint or a serious mistake. The list was published on May 29, but removed from the DHS website on Sunday. It included California as a whole and listed a majority of the state’s 58 counties, though Orange County was not included.

The Estancia High baseball team has held tightly onto the belief all season that hard work could mean eventual success. Putting fish into it, however, is much less common. “There’s only a few people who put things in,” Caruso said. “That’s what makes this program so special.”Caruso is the founder Get Inspired, a nonprofit working with Orange County schools of all ages to nurture white sea bass, green abalone, Pismo clams and other species before releasing them into the ocean.

Kathleen Cosgrove used to be a lobbyist, but when she turned 50 she sold her business and went to art school, trading persuasion for paintbrushes. Cosgrove, raised in Berkeley in the 1960s, believes both pursuits are connected. “It’s all about the same thing, and that is feeling like I want to make the world a better place, pining for social justice and human rights,” she said. “I had that ingrained in me at a very young age, and it stuck with me all the way through.
