GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia city leaders are set to vote on a new budget that could see utility bills increase, but otherwise keep property taxes flat. Tuesday's Gastonia City Council meeting, set for 6 p.m., will include consideration for the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026. The $322.55 million budget avoids a property tax increase for residents, but still funds infrastructure improvements, public safety upgrades and employee raises.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As the federal fraud case against indicted Charlotte City Council member Tiawana Brown gets underway, new court documents reveal that one of her daughters, who is also indicted, requested the court's permission to continue with a trip to Jamaica. WCNC Charlotte reviewed court documents that showed Tijema Brown asked the judge on May 27 to allow her to travel to Montego Bay from June 7 through June 11.

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Six people have been charged in connection with the shooting death of a woman found dead in Lancaster County earlier this month, investigators announced Monday. Sheriff Barry Faile said that two adults and a 17-year-old male were arrested and three juveniles were detained for their alleged involvement in the death of Larisha Sharell Thompson on May 2. Thompson, 40, was found shot to death in her car along Riverside Road.
