The Labour Party is trying to damage morale in the Nationalist Party to cover up its own internal problems, according to party leader Bernard Grech. Grech was speaking in Żejtun as part of a whistle-stop tour of PN clubs across the country during a PN fundraising marathon on Sunday. “Everyone knows the Labour Party is doing its best to break our morale and disrupt our work,” Grech said. “Why? A recent outbreak of a highly contagious disease that affects poultry is under control, according to Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo. On Tuesday, the agriculture ministry confirmed that two poultry farms had reported cases of Newcastle disease, which can cause severe respiratory, nervous and digestive symptoms in birds.

The government has launched a research programme aimed at tackling obesity. The programme is being led by Xjenza Malta in collaboration with the Ministry for Health. €300,000 will be made available for three projects. The call for proposals is open for six weeks and closes on July 7. An information session on the programme will be held on June 2.
