    Hanford City Council approved the purchased of a new ice rink Tuesday evening. Hanford Parks and Community Services Director Brad Albert and his staff recommended purchasing a new ice rink and requested that the council appropriate $106,679 to pay the first of two payments. The purchase of a new ice rink costs $240,160, which would be paid in two installments over two fiscal year budgets. “If we continue to rent, it goes up every year,” he said.

    Hanford City Council and staff convened for a study session on Tuesday to discuss the Hanford Municipal Code and forthcoming amendments to the camping ordinance. In December 2020, the Council introduced Ordinance 20-15, to prevent individuals experiencing homelessness from setting up encampments in city parks. The proposed amendments to Hanford Municipal Code Ordinance 20-15 expand enforcement parameters and establish new restrictions on individuals experiencing homelessness.

    With a designated $2.45 million in funding for the next five years, Hanford officials and Parks and Community Services Department staff are preparing for the grand opening of the Boys and Girls Club Hanford Innovation Lab on Saturday, March 30. Parks and Community Services Director Brad Albert said that the club is filling a gap in the community because there is a lack of after-school City-led programs dedicated to serving teens.
