    As power and damage recovery efforts following Tropical Storm Helene continue, relief efforts are also picking up in the Carolinas. NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway are teaming up for a Hurricane Relief Drive Wednesday, October 2nd from 9am to 9pm at the Charlotte Motor Speedway that will go towards helping those hit hardest in the North Carolina mountains. The North Wilkesboro Speedway will also be accepting donations from 9am to 5pm daily through Sunday, October 6th.

    A North Carolina father-daughter and coach-athlete duo has just brought back the bronze from the Paris Olympics. Evy Leibfarth of Bryson City represented the United States and earned a bronze medal in women's canoe slalom. She was sitting in third place with one competitor standing between her and her first Olympic medal. The Czech Republic' Gabriela Satkova faded in the middle of the course though, allowing the 20-year-old Leibfarth of North Carolina to hold on and earn bronze.

    A memorial service has been planned for Furman University football player Bryce Stansfield. He died February 9th in the hospital after he suffered a medical emergency during an early morning workout in Paladin Stadium. Furman University said a campus memorial service is set for Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 3:45 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium. The Stansfield family is asking everyone to bring a photo of Bryce or an index card with a favorite memory written on it.
