As power and damage recovery efforts following Tropical Storm Helene continue, relief efforts are also picking up in the Carolinas. NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway are teaming up for a Hurricane Relief Drive Wednesday, October 2nd from 9am to 9pm at the Charlotte Motor Speedway that will go towards helping those hit hardest in the North Carolina mountains. The North Wilkesboro Speedway will also be accepting donations from 9am to 5pm daily through Sunday, October 6th.

A North Carolina father-daughter and coach-athlete duo has just brought back the bronze from the Paris Olympics. Evy Leibfarth of Bryson City represented the United States and earned a bronze medal in women's canoe slalom. She was sitting in third place with one competitor standing between her and her first Olympic medal. The Czech Republic' Gabriela Satkova faded in the middle of the course though, allowing the 20-year-old Leibfarth of North Carolina to hold on and earn bronze.

A memorial service has been planned for Furman University football player Bryce Stansfield. He died February 9th in the hospital after he suffered a medical emergency during an early morning workout in Paladin Stadium. Furman University said a campus memorial service is set for Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 3:45 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium. The Stansfield family is asking everyone to bring a photo of Bryce or an index card with a favorite memory written on it.

The Furman Football player that had been hospitalized earlier this week, has passed away. Bryce Stanfield's passing was announced Friday afternoon after originally being hospitalized during a Wednesday workout due to a "medical emergency". A press release from the school explained that the 21-year-old Furman junior Defensive Tackle died surrounded by his friends and family.

Former Governor and 2024 Presidential hopeful Nikki Haley returned to South Carolina after her second-place finish in the New Hampshire primary for a campaign rally in the Upstate. Haley appeared at Mauldin High School Saturday night, where she received endorsements from State Representative Nathan Valentine and US Congressman Ralph Norman. Haley opened her speech by lauding her performance in the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries.

A preview press conference was held Tuesday ahead of this weekend's return of the annual Fall for Greenville festival. This year's Fall for Greenville is set to kick off with a Thursday night concert before the main event runs from Friday, October 13th through Sunday, October 15th. Fall for Greenville Board Chair Elect Veera Gaul said this year's festival is set to feature 88 different performances at seven different concert stages, 85 of which are new this year.

According to a recent study from Forbes earlier this year, South Carolina ranked number one across the nation for speeding-based traffic fatalities. South Carolina Highway Patrol Community Relations Officer Joel Hovis says traffic fatalities like these are an unfortunately common occurrence on South Carolina roads.
