A driver fleeing the Georgia State Patrol veered off the interstate Monday evening and onto busy streets in Little Five Points, where authorities said the motorist ran a red light and struck a passing vehicle, killing that driver. The GSP said troopers saw a vehicle speeding and "making erratic lane changes" on I-20 near the Boulevard exit just before 8 p.m. They tried to stop the car, but the driver sped away, triggering a pursuit, according to a GSP statement.

A man was shot in a south Macon neighborhood Monday night, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies were dispatched to a 911 call regarding a person shot just before 7:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Houston Avenue. They found a 44-year-old man “suffering from a gunshot wound,” a news release from the sheriff’s office said. Paramedics responded and took him to a medical facility where he was listed in “critical, but stable condition,” deputies said.

Over the past 14 years, all six members of the Atlanta Rhythm Section who were active when the band had its flurry of hits in the late 1970s, like "So Into You," "Imaginary Lover" and "Spooky," have died. Lead singer Ronnie Hammond died in 2011, followed by drummer Robert Nix in 2012, bassist Paul Goddard in 2014, guitarist James "J.R." Cobb in 2019, guitarist Barry Bailey in 2022, and keyboardist Dean Daughtry in 2023.

Jennifer Johnson thought West Egg would be around forever. She opened the restaurant with her husband, Ben Johnson, in 2004 in an old warehouse. There were few other restaurants in the area besides Bacchanalia, Figo Pasta and Taqueria del Sol, but that didn't stop West Egg from becoming a top brunch destination where diners waited an hour for churro waffles. Twenty years later, faced with a lease renewal, Johnson decided not to sign on for another five to 10 years.
