Jesus is God’s final word in redemptive history (Heb. 1:2). He has fulfilled all Old Testament promises and expectations. We now await the consummation of his kingdom in the new creation. There’s no going back to the shadow of Canaan. Hebrews, instead, envisions God’s one pilgrim people on the verge of entering their final heavenly homeland. Like Abraham and other Old Testament saints, we are waiting for a city with foundations, whose designer and builder is God.

What Small Groups LackSome Christians might value their small group more than their local church. In fact, some Christians think their small group is a church. A church is, after all, a people not a place, and small groups do many of the same things that churches do. At a small group, Christians gather to pray, read the Bible, and encourage one another to obey its commands. They might also sing together and exhort one another to participate in evangelism.

We must also recognize that AI technology is here to stay. The church cannot avoid giving careful thought to fundamental questions like: how does AI fit into the Christian worldview and how might we engage with AI technologies to further our mission without compromising our biblical values and principles?

We live in a generation of “intelligences”—emotional intelligence, creative intelligence, and, more recently, “artificial” intelligence. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broad field of study within computer science, designing systems that think and act like humans—from playing games to driving vehicles. Two major subdivisions of AI are “specific” and “general” forms.

I took a deep breath and opened the door to my daughter’s room. This was going to be a tough conversation. She looked at me with tear-filled eyes and said, “I hate this place.” She wasn’t alone. I was wrestling with similar feelings. Every day assaulted me with new sights, smells, and sounds. The world spun around me. For the cross-cultural worker, the lack of the familiar often evokes internal chaos. The specific stressors vary from place to place. But the feelings are the same.

Books written years ago by missionary Amy Carmichael continue to encourage Christians around the world. But Carmichael didn’t set out to be an author. She turned to writing when she was bedridden, suffering from multiple injuries as a result of a fall that would cripple her with pain and confine her to a bed for the last two decades of her life.

In November 2022, the world witnessed a staggering technological advancement—the release of the open AI platform ChatGPT. It’s truly impressive. If you tell ChatGPT to “make a case for the abolition of property taxes, providing citations of legal precedent,” it’ll generate a cogent 400-word response in a matter of seconds. If you tell it to “write a children’s bedtime story appropriate for a 4-year-old,” it’ll do it. But as impressive as ChatGPT is, it presents one hiccup for its users.

In my years of discipling college students and 20-somethings, I’ve received a consistent question: “Can I, a Christian, date a non-Christian?” Because I’m persuaded the reason Christians should date is to identify their spouse, I believe the fundamental question being asked is “Can I marry a non-Christian?”The Bible presents a simple answer to this question: no. However, over the years I’ve found the simple answer is simply unsatisfactory for many.
