NewsDunedinKāinga Ora's cuts to a host of housing projects could worsen Dunedin’s homelessness problem, city councillors say. The national state housing agency has said it was cutting some of its planned projects, including 10 in Dunedin which would have created 120 new homes. The move angered Cr Carmen Houlahan, who called on Ka ¯inga Ora to become more active, not less, in the community.

Ten Kainga Ora state housing projects in Dunedin bringing 120 homes have been scrapped in what has been described as another "kick in the guts" to the city. They are part of the 212 projects throughout the country that have been chopped in an announcement by Housing Minister Chris Bishop on Thursday. Mr Bishop has said the agency needed to be turned around, as its mounting debt was "unsustainable".

The people, mostly locals, were taking the opportunity to visit the historic Olveston house in Dunedin for the cost of an ice cream. Olveston home supervisor Alec McWhirter said offering the community the chance to visit the place for a nominal fee was in the spirit of Matariki.
